Medieval routes: Many of the villages in Ampurdan have conserved parts of their medieval centres. Several of the villages have also maintained numerous architectural monuments of great interest. The area offers an important historical cultural legacy.

The medieval villages nearest our hotel are: Peratallada, Palau Sator and Ullastret. There is also a beautiful area close to the town of La Bisbal known as the “Catalan Tuscany” including such villages as: Madremaña, Sant Martí Vell, Monells and La Pera.

Iberian village of Ullastret: This Iberian village is the largest in Catalonia covering more than 10 hectares and is one of the most important sites in the country. The village still conserves part of the defense wall dated from VI century BC.

The ruins of Empúries: the most important Greco-Roman archaeological site in Spain conserving the remains of three settlements dating between the VII and III centuries BC: the Old city and port, the newer commercial city and the Roman city.

Gerona: Capital of the province and founded by the Romans at the beginning of the 1st century BC. The Jewish quarter, more than 600 yrs old, is one of the largest in Spain. It is known as “El Call” and with its narrow, uneven, cobbled streets is well worth a visit as is the Cathedral of Girona. The Cathedral of Santa Maria was built during several different periods between the twelfth and eighteenth centuries and dominates the old part of the city.

Dalí Triangle: Three houses, three places, all located in the Empordà and all linked to Salvador Dalí:

- Dalí Museum in Figueras: second most visited museum in Spain (after the Prado) opened in 1974 and contains the artist’s most represented works.

-Casa Dalí in Port Lligat: House located in Cadaques where the artist lived from 1930 to 1982.

- Púbol medieval castle: Dali bought this Gothic-Renaissance palace built in the XIV century for his wife Gala. They resided there together in the 1960’s.

Cadaques: characterized by its white houses, narrow cobbled streets, art galleries, bars, and bohemian restaurants. While there a visit to Cap de Creus is not to be missed. This very unique spot, not to be found anywhere else in the world, resembles a lunar landscape.

Josep Pla Itinerary: The itinerary, designed by the Josep Pla Foundation, discloses important landmarks in and around the municipality of Palafrugell, to the writer’s fans. This route is based on biographical and literary references.

Boat trip to the Medes Islands: A tour of the “Costa de Montgrí” to Foradada and the natural protected area of the Medes Islands.

Aiguamolls Natural Park is a wetland nature reserve of international importance for the protection and conservation of wild birds.

Route of the Volcanoes: The Garrotxa is one of the most important volcanic areas in Europe, studied and visited by geologists from around the world.

Romanesque Visit: Just a few miles from Figueres, and due to major restoration work done in recent years, several well-preserved Romanesque monuments from different historical eras can be visited. Each is an outstanding work of religious Catalonian architecture and are undoubtedly the most important Romanesque monuments in northeastern Catalonia. They are: San Pere de Rodes, Sant Quirze de Colera and Vilabertran monastery.

Banyoles lake: covering an area of 107 hectares is one of the largest lakes in Spain.

We recommend La Bisbal village for antiques and ceramics, and Playa de Aro or the Rambla Llibertat in Girona.

Jazz bar/restaurant Mas de Sorrer in Gualta: Drinks and food are offered in this beautiful spot surrounded by fields of sunflowers. Bars in Begur: El Croack and La Ola are both located in the old part of the village providing music and serving cocktails on outdoor terraces.

Vintage lounge: Located at Cap Sa Sal (Begur) has beautiful views of the Mediterranean, a must, especially at sunset.

Carpas Costa Este: Outdoor disco located on the main road from Palafrugell to Calella.

Towns with nightlife:

- Palamos: Coast town sitting on a huge sandy bay. A good place to eat tapas in small typical bars located in the old part near the church. The discotheque is called La Plata.

- Playa de Aro: numerous bars, discotheques and clubs are to be found in this town.

Festival de Castell de Perelada: International festival started in 1987 and held every year during the months of July and August in the castle grounds. International festival of music at Torroella de Montgri: this music festival started in 1980. It’s main focus is classical music. Held between the months of July and August in the village square with the church of Sant Genis in the background this festival includes interpretations by world famous choirs, soloists, and symphony orchestras. Cap Roig Festival: This festival, is held in the auditorium of the botanical gardens near the Mediterranean sea from July through August. Dance, music from around the world, opera and jazz are the focal points offering the public diversity, quality, originality and creativity to its shows. Every weekday there are local and artisan markets in different towns and villages in the region. They sell a wide variety of local home grown fruit, vegetables, homemade cheeses and local meats. Some also sell clothing and typical accessories from the region. We recommend: the antiques fair in April in La Bisbal, the wine tasting fair of Catalonia in the village of Pals in august and the “Flower Fair” in Gerona, in the first half of May. This is an amazing flower exhibition with private gardens open to the public.

Aviation: there are several light aircraft clubs in the region offering a variety of related activities and excursions.
